Therapeutic Approach
I’m Debbie September, a BACP registered integrative counsellor based in Putney. For over 10 years, I’ve worked with people navigating the impact of past experiences, helping them reconnect with their sense of self and step into a more authentic way of living.
My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that true wellbeing comes from living in alignment with your authentic self. This means that your thoughts, feelings and actions are working in harmony, rather than pulling you in different directions. When we feel out of step with ourselves—confused, conflicted, or disconnected—it often shows up as anxiety, low mood, frustration, or a sense of feeling stuck.
Carl Jung, the famous psychologist and founder of analytical psychology, once said:
"The world will ask you who you are, and if you do not know,
the world will tell you."
I believe that knowing who really you are gives you a sense of who you are in the world.
Space to Explore
In therapy with me, we’ll create space to bring all of you into the room—your inner world, your struggles, your history, and your hopes for the future.
We will unpack what’s going on beneath the surface and work together to help you develop a clear, compassionate understanding of yourself. This work can be empowering, grounding and even transformational.
Many of us go through life without stopping to reflect on whether our inner life (what we think and feel) is matching up with how we live and act in the world. Therapy is your opportunity to explore that—to look at what’s working and what isn’t, and to ask:
Is this truly me?
Is this how I want to live?
I believe that emotional distress is often a signal that you’re not living in alignment with your own core values—perhaps trying to meet others’ expectations, or holding onto patterns that no longer serve you. Together, we’ll gently explore those areas and help you reconnect with what really matters to you.
My Therapy Room is
a Space for Self-Exploration
As an integrative therapist, I draw from several therapeutic models, tailoring my approach to suit your individual needs. But beyond tools and techniques, what guides my work is a deep respect for who you are, and a belief in your capacity to grow, change, and live with clarity and confidence.
Some of the themes we may explore together include:
Your values and whether you are living in alignment with them
Conflicting thoughts, feelings and behaviours
Outdated relational patterns that no longer serve you
Past experiences that may still impact your present
What it means to live more fully, more freely, and more in tune with your authentic self
Developing self-trust, self-understanding, and confidence

Together, we will look at the emotional “cupboards” of your life—what’s been stored away, overlooked, or hidden—and bring light and attention to those areas.
You’ll begin to understand how your thinking, feeling, and doing interact and influence each other, and how to realign them in a way that feels true to you.
Therapy Helps You Live With Integrity
I see therapy not just as a place to “fix” problems, but as an opportunity to develop a stronger connection to yourself.
Over time, many of my clients say they leave therapy with a clearer sense of who they are. They feel more grounded in their decisions, less swayed by external pressures, and more able to navigate life with confidence.
If you've ever felt unsure of who you are or puzzled by the way others react to you—or if you’ve been overwhelmed by conflicting advice or expectations—therapy can help you reconnect with your voice and your internal compass.
That’s what I mean by living with integrity.
